Just acquired another one of these Middle Eastern Trench art pieces. Much of it originated in Damascus.

The object is most likely a tobacco humidor. The shell base lid provides a fairly tight seal on the container.

The shell has a 4.75 diameter and is marked "Dusselldorf, 1914". The humidor is about 4" tall.

The base shell has been decorated with applied copper and silver. The lid has also been decorated

Most of the time the text will be from the Koran; however, I have not had it translated.

I looked at your others and they are fantastic! I never knew this type of art existed. Thanks for sharing these unique items! BTW... I love the Koran shell and hat ashtrays!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my other postings.

I think that the miniatures (airplanes, hats, tanks, chairs, etc...) are especially nice!
