I purchased 6 cups and saucers today at a garage sale for $5. These cups and saucers look like they match the footed bowl featured today on this site's home page. They are in perfect condition except that the thin gold lines on the cups and saucers which are a little worn in a couple of places. I'm sorry I have no history on this china. Included in the box was a plate that almost looked like a match except that it was made in Germany and the gold line around the rim was much thicker.

From Gotheburg: "Rising sun" Nippon. This mark is probably related to Noritake. This mark however datable to the "Nippon" period 1890-1921, probably slightly later, maybe at least into the 1930s.

Spot on i think. I have a book called Collectors's Encyclopedia of Early Noritake, the mark appears on page 12, it reads: Circa 1916 in pale blue. It appears on two Noritake patterns, Azalea and Monterey.

Thank you katherinescollections and tigerchips. I appreciate the information. Now I just need to find a site that will help me with the value. I don't imagine they are worth too much but it would be nice to know their value. I'm giving them to my daughter.

It's hard to track these earlier pieces and patterns down, you might try at Replacements, they give you a high retail value, then at eBay where the values on completed sales are often pretty low. Average them for a selling price, for an insurance value go with Replacements.
