My Great Grandfather, born in 1832. He was either a circus performer or in Vaudeville. This is him in his costume. I'd like to know if anyone out there recognizes the backdrop to further identify it.

I don't recognize any specifics on the backdrop. It is pretty typical of late 19th century.

Based on the type of image (loose tintype) and clothing, I would date it to the 1880s- 90s time period.

If your g- grandfather was born in 1832, I would think this is someone else as the age doesn't really fit with the age of the man in the image.

I love this photo! Scott knows his photos, that's a for sure!

Isn't it funny how we have stories passed down through the years only to find out otherwise at some point. Sort of like when we were kids at school, starting a secret at one end of the classroom and ending at the other, when you hear the complete opposite of the original secret by the time it gets to the last person.

I can't get over how the people back then looked so much like people we see around today. RER
