This is a 18ct rose gold Rose with leaves and a stem. The Rose as been separately put together petal by petal. The brooch was made in 1965, by which time Bernard Instone had retired.
He had two sons Paul and John. I have no idea who made this brooch I would be very interested to find out.
There is very little information about The boys. I know they both went to work in Langstone which was one of the two work shops. John as a salesman and Paul as a manager. Bernard initially refused to pay them a salary preferring instead to buy them things when they wanted them.
Bernard handed the reins to Paul and retired completely in 1963.
I have looked on the net but can't find out when the work shops closed. I know John and Paul fell out in the mid 60s.
This brooch is a far cry from the work that Bernard produced. I bought it because I want to have a broader spectrum. To me it looks like a Christmas decoration or a cake ornament.
The mystery in this brooch is who was the designer after Bernard Instone retired.
    Many thanks for looking

It's such a interesting brooch, in my opinion, the brooch is 18 ct. Bernard would not have use this expensive metal unless it was a commission piece. He would normally use Silver, which the average person could afford.

In my opinion I don't like it. But as I said I'm trying to get a board spectrum of his work. This is in my opinion not his design or work.

It's so different from Bernard's work you have shown us, but has it own merits. I guess the designer was influenced by what was the fashion then, and it seems to me (noob I am) that BI kept true to his own style, no matter what the current fashion was.
Maybe not your style of brooch Jean but beautifully made!

I agree with you Karen, I think it was probably the fashion style in the mid 60s. It as been nicely made, and it's a hefty weight.
