This old trunk belonged to my husbands grandparents. We don't really know much about it. Wondering if anyone knows what era it comes from. Looks like we can see patmar1860 on one of the brads or hasp. Unsure about all of it. Trying to decide if I should leave as is or try to refurbish.
Looks like a nice 1880's to 90's dome top trunk. The patent date on the slat clamp should read March 16th 1885 -- the last number is blurred but it is there. This would be the year the hardware was patented -- so that is the oldest it could be -- sometimes the hardware was used for many years after the patent date. It would be nice to see a picture of the front...

Your trunk looks very much like the one given to me for my daughter. My aunt told me when she gave it to me that when my daughter was 18 the trunk would be 100 years old. Your's looks much larger but of the same style.
I think it is probably at least 100 years old or older. Not really sure.
Grandparents were 99 years old at death. It was given to us from grandparents. I just would like to know how old.
