This is a quite simple ice cup dating from the Taisho era, around 1920.
I know it's not old by glass standards but it represents to me a period when Japan was really getting it's mojo as far as glass production goes.
Most of the great Japanese glass companies were formed in the first decades of the 20th century and at this time were hand making large volumes of glass to suit their own growing domestic market.
This cup has been made with clear glass, white threading and a cranberry and white lip.
It shows a typical early, rough pontil break.
The work here is not technically or creatively brilliant but shows how quickly the Japanese developed their glass making over the next 50 years.
Any idea of the maker ???
No idea Vet. There were at least 3 factories making similar and I have not seen an attribution anywhere. Now if I could read and speak Japanese I might get somewhere but despite some attempt I'm still a Japanese ignoramus. If only I had your faculties!
