I purchased this at a flea market for pennies. It is a flying fish souvenir from the island of Pitcairn (the location of the Mutiny on the Bounty). Parkin Christian was the great great grandson of First Mate of the Bounty Fletcher Christian. At the time Parkin crafted this fish the Pitcairners were not using chain saws (he died in 1971) so this was a truly hand-crafted item. Parkin was an exceptional member of the little Pitcairn society, widely traveled, and one of the best “native” navigators in all the South Pacific.
