I picked this up in a junk shop last weekend. I was curious about the model. It seems similar to the "Paris" and "Louvre" but much less ornate. It is stamped on the bottom 5981 C. If any body know anything more about it, that would be great. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info about these faux french style clocks.

5981 C corresponds to a manufacture date of March 1895. The case appears to be wood, is that right or is it refinished metal?

Yes, the case is all wood

I can't find this model in any of my references. The wood "rivets" are a design element of some Kroeber Clock models, but the date code was a Seth Thomas convention so I don't think it is a "marriage" of clock parts. At any rate, it is a very nice and interesting clock. The finish looks great and well cared for. For what it may be worth, I have found that Bees Wax in Lemon Oil is a nice wax/polish for antique wood. Sorry I couldn't be more specific for you in regards to the model name, but at least you do have the date of manufacture down to the year and month. That's significant and rare. Most manufacturers didn't supply that level of dating and many Seth Thomas clocks with the stamp have ink that is so badly faded that it has become illegible. Nice save from the 'Junk Shop'! Thanks for sharing.

      Hello,

Have a look at this. Is it the same marking.
