I bought this a few years back in a charity shop. I'm assuming that it's a Victorian bag /purse ?

The chain is silver as is the clasp. The clasp is in working order. The cloth is velvet and the roses are pink with gold leaves

There is a hallmark of some kind on the top clip as well.

Would anybody know what exactly i bought?

    Many thanks

Hi! Beautiful mount and bag :-)
It seems the bag is lacking its handle and was further attached to a chatelaine!
Chatelaines were intended to be worn at belt, keeping small accessories handy.
Impossible to identify the marks from the pics, you may add better one by edit item then choose image.

I managed to take a photo of the hallmark. As you can see, SJ is the main initials and there are three below. The first depicts a horse the second a bear ? and the third the letter F.

I also loaded a pic of the clip.

Many thanks for the info. Fascinating to see what you can glean from a hallmark. You would wonder to whom it belonged and how it ended up in a charity shop in Dublin Ireland..
