I just purchased this postcard based on a poster advertising a few rock concerts at the Fillmore West and Winterland in March and April of 1971, just about exactly 40 years ago. At the top, Puss 'n' Boots battles a devil on a sinister bird, perhaps a raven. Below, we can see that Eric Burdon was in his short-lived War phase, with J Geils as the opener!
Typical of Bill Graham concerts of this period, sometimes the artists creating the posters for these shows (in this case, the great David Singer) didn't even know who some of the supporting acts would be. Thus the "Other Acts To Be Announced" legend below Santana's two-night stand at Winterland. By this time, though, Santana was so hot, Graham knew he could get a good house at the former ice rink with the guitarist's name alone (I think The Fourth Way and Grootna filled out the bill).
