This Rubén, every year at this time he comes to collect our Olives. This machine is used for collecting the Olives that have fallen to the ground. If you look at the photos you can see the spikes which when rolled picks up the Olives and deposits them into the basket. This machine has been passed down though his family for many years, Rubén doesn't know how old this machine is. Apparently they still make these machines, so they must be very efficient. After Rubén picks the Olives he then takes them to an Olive mill, to be made into Olive oil, depending on how many Kilos he collects we get a percentage of the oil.
Later he will return to to pick the rest of the Olives from the trees.

Yes vetraio , Rubén does all the olive picking and we get the lovely Olive oil. :-)
Hi and jscott, yes they do things the old fashion way in Spain, which works extremely well. Two years ago we planted some more Olive, Almond, Apple, Lemon and Fig trees. Most of the local people have pulled up their Olive and Almond trees to plant Avocados and Mango trees as there is more money, unfortunately they need a lot more water, this year the crop hasn't been good. So I'm sticking to the indigenous trees which need very little water so they are much better for the ego system.
Sorry vetraio I didn't answer your question, we have may be 200 trees. To honest I've never counted them, there could be more.
I love this post Jean. The whole idea of all your trees growing, the rhythm of the seasons there, and Rubén coming with his great machine.
Rubén looks like a great young man to have around with so many olive trees !!!

I use lots of Spanish olive oil for cooking , it is a family tradition ..
I MUST come and visit some time ... when just passing bye : ) ...

Oh ozmarty I'm sure they will, they are softies. I have 2 St Bernards, a Dalmation, a Spanish Water Dog and the newest addition is a Patterdale Terrier who I bought out from the UK when a friend of mine died. :-)
