This bead was not a 'tradebead but a 'madebead, I like to say
It is stone, steadtite or magnesite? I'm not sure.
If you look close you can see the marks made when it was ground, drilled and polished by hand.
It was drilled from both sides
Upon closer examination you can see in the center evidence of the drilling process. Marks resemble threads on a nut/bolt.
Method/technic used "bow " in my opinion.

screima : Are you sure this is a bead and not some sort of tool ? It looks kind of large to be a bead , but then it is hard to tell from the photo . Maybe you could take a picture of it next to a coin like in some of your other photos so I can see the size ?

It's possible, what's your best guess?
Althought now that you mention it, the center hole is larger than the other beads I have of the same type of stone.
It never occured to me it could be a tool..hum...
Keep in mind the photo is a bit deceptive. It appears larger than it actually is..
In fact it's the same size as a dime
.I photographed it so the details of the artifact could easily be seen.

If it is as small as a dime I doubt it is a tool the hole would be to small to do much of anything . You've got me . I have no idea of what it could be unless it is a large bead .
