I'd love help finding out what this little item is. It was part of a "sewing notions" grab bag from a salvage shop that included thread and bone buttons. If you look closely (image 2), it seems this is a needlework tool of some sort as it came with something in process! What is it? How can I use this nifty little tool?

      I remember these!
Look up french knitting and you will see how it's done.
I remember having lots of tubey things produced from it and wondering what to do with them.
