I know little about this chair other than it has hand made screws and both sides of the lip under the seat are carved as well. I cannot find a makers mark. Someone posted a very similar chair a few days ago. Interested to know any info on it. Thanks

Could this be an antique potty chair? I know very little about chairs, but have seen these at various garage/estate sales and that's where i've learned there's a thing like that! =)

I see no reason to believe this was ever a potty chair. A round recessed opening isn't an indication of a potty chair.

The crest board is a double press back which helps you date it. The seat is side ways but appears to have the lions head carved in it and it would lock in place in the opening. Regardless of whether you have the missing piece of the seat, it can be repaired with modern epoxies etc. Although it is expensive. The cost of repair might well be more than the value of the chair. If you have the missing piece it becomes a do it yourself job.

I, too, have no reason to believe this after I did a quick look up on the internet. I actually had a good chuckle at my own comment when imagined someone rocking on a chair while sitting on a potty =)

I recently acquired a chair almost identical. I'm quit certain your chair is made by langslow fowler company Rochester, NY..the round bottom was originally filled with metal springs all tied together. It was a fancy new type of upholstery.

This chair looks a lot like identical chairs in the vintage Brumby Chair Co. catalog. Possibly a Brumby Model 1106. Made in Marietta,Ga. Company name was printed on the bottom of the seat insert. I have Model 1865.
