Patience is a virtue they say and I've had to be virtuous for over five years now for this little beauty to arrive home. But if there is a day of the week when Patience & Virtue collide ..... then for me it is Tuesday. Tuen's day can also mean chiropractor's day and a 9.45 appointment with Audrey who pummels away at the back. This meant a late arrival at my favourite shop the morning.
I hopped off the bus at the front door of the shop and could not believe my eyes. I swept inside and as I picked the vase up the lady who sorts and prices the wares said that it had been put out less than two minutes ago.
Serendipity!!!
It was waiting for me to arrive and to take it home to KN1759 and KN1705.
I finally had a third in the series created at Leerdam by Andries Dirk Copier. Three is so much better than two. Better still the height was a mid point between the other two vases. The KN1705 is 220mm tall and the KN1759 is just 80mm.
This little beauty is called a KN1753 and is 152mm tall. Its original price in 1936 was 4.90 gulden.

I hope you can see the optic 'vase within a vase' form created within the thick forms of the glass. Copier's designs are masterful exercises playing with the plastic qualities of glass. "De werking van den binnenwand ten opzichte van den buitenwand doet een fraaie algemeene reflectie ontstaan. Zelfs zonder eenige bloemen of takken formen deze vazen reeds een glanzend sieraad, terwijl ze gevuld een overweldigenden indruk maken."
