Found two identical chairs on trash day in Bryn Mawr, PA, (near Philadelphia.) Chair height 33.5". Chair seat 15.5" width, 16" deep, Chair leg-to-leg width at stretcher 17.25". The underside of chair reads
"RC ADIAN MAPLE" The middle splat section of the chair back seems to be attached with old bolts under the seat. The splat grip cut-out is an upside-down U shape. The outer stiles may possibly be glued or tension fitted (no screws.) The legs seem to be glued or tension fitted as well. The stretchers are identical and on all four sides of the chair. The chairs have a nice patina and are solid and sturdy. I don't know wood, but the underside of the seat says MAPLE. A primitive looking chair.

A misprint of Canadian? Royal? We got lots of maples here eh. Those stove bolts are old. God know when those became obsolete.

I would agree with it possibly having been made in Canada but the stencil is not a misprint. I believe it was the name of a furniture maker/company. I seem to think they were in Halifax but memory sometimes fails me. When you say the bolts are old it depends on how old you are. I remember when they were in common everyday use. You can't see anything to call it a bolt. What you see is a square nut on a threaded rod.
