Purchased this paper covered doll trunk with original tray at a flea market months ago, just go around to working on it. It is 12 inches wide and 9 tall. It was very dirty and the paper was mostly gone, leather handles and hinges had rotted over the years, it needed help. I cleaned it up, refinished the exterior, added new leather and removed most of the old paper from the interior. It was a very plain looking trunk at that point so took the liberty of adding new metal trim, not period appropriate but it does add some visual interest.

Oh wow, what an incredible turnaround you did with this one. I love the metal trim you added. It works really well with this one. Another beautiful job you've done here.

Thanks Drill, I usually try to stay true to the original look. When I finished this trunk it was boring so I added the trim.

You have artistic talent which you use to add interest to your trunks. You create beautiful works of art by burning and staining designs into the wood.

Thank you Kathy that is a sweet comment, Your trunks come out very clean, certain trunks I do keep as original as possible. It depends on what it is though. I have to admit that I have looked for embossed tin to run down the center slats of a trunk
with no luck finding a good pattern to use. I could see this pattern being used on a
piece that I have. Wondering where you found it?

Drill - purchased the metal trim on Etsy I found several different styles on there. I rubbed a little black paint on it to dull the shine. Not sure if this link will work, if it doesn't search Metal Ribbon

Very nice job KathyKay! I agree that it's nice sometimes to dress up the plains ones a little, when you can use something that is appropriate or period looking. I think this works great for this one and is similar to some of the old embossed zinc metal that was used on some trunks. Of course they also used lots of fancy paper trim too as you know. I have also done something similar at times to dress up a very plain toy trunk if all the original paper and trim are beyond saving. Thanks for sharing!
