This came in the mail today. I really love it! it's very large and has the most beautiful colors in it. It's going to look great on the wall of my new place near my Dinky Bird by Maxfield Parrish. I think this is a little older - maybe 1890s up to 1905?

Edit the original. Just a little change to the size. Get rid of this one and it should then be righ way up.

thank you mikelv85. the print itself is in perfect condition. the frame has a little nick on it, but easily repairable.

1886 - there's a whole page on Wikipedia to it.

Thank you Kevin. some interesting info. since this piece has a star at the top, i think it was printed in 1887, the first one printed. i just love the blue - reminds me a lot of Maxfield Parrish's early work [Dinky Bird, particularly].

this painting became the inspiration for a speech by Dr. Frederick G. Sampson in Richmond, VA in the 1980s. Jeremiah Wright attended the lecture and was inspired to give a sermon on 'the audacity of hope' which Senator Barrack Obama heard, and inspired him to base his campaign on the 'audacity of hope'. cool!

i also read that this is supposedly barrack obama's favorite painting.

And like Pandora's Box all that is left today is little, battered Hope. Hope that we make it through the next four years with a literal madman in power.
    17. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 7 years ago
that is an accurate description of my feelings, Celiene! i think it is as healthy an outlook as can be expected these days.

I just found out that my version of this print is from the original run in 1887 and is probably the best preserved platinotype known. Platinotypes were a photographic process where platinum was used. Here on Worthpoint, you can see the actual one that i purchased on ebay many years ago. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/antique-19thc-frederick-hollyer-1790961441
