I believe I know what it is, but not due to age, so I will just roll on by.
I'll give you a pass on that K. only if you REALLY expect us to belive.
I appreciate you letting me skate by on that, but the only reason I know what it is, is my parents told me what they are when I was a kid.

Is it some sort of roller skate key to tighten or loosen them?

I don't know POP, most of the people that knew what this is, back in the day, aren't living. Be careful.
My uncle had a wood skate board with metal wheels and I inherited it in the 70s as a young boy. I thought I was early in the skate board movement. By high school my class mates were making boards for skate boards but they had the high tech trucks and hard rubber wheels.
I have owned a few of the iron skates, but only as antiques. I likely have a set in a box, somewhere.
Well I don't think of myself as 'that old' but I guess I am at 68.......... I cna remember clamp-on skates, can't begin to tell you how many pairs of shoes were ruined because they ripped the soles right off...............clamp-ons wouldn't work with basket ball or tennis shoes, you had to have that hard sole to clamp around. and they would jar your teeth out on most streets 'in-the-day' but they were the best we had and 'state of the art' at the time.........
I had the skates that were clamp on . I used to be quite a good skater in my younger days . A couple of years ago I bought some clamp on skates at a yard sale and thought I would take it up again . LoL , I nearly broke my neck !!!!! I soon put them in one of our Flea Market Booths and sold them .
Thanks Nancy, gave me a laugh...I guess it would be the same if Kevin got on a skate-board today !. I'd pay to see that!!!!!! LOL.
Oh you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd! Skating without this key would most certainly lead to injury.

I wonder if this has anything to do with knee and elbow pads being invented? Band aids just didn't work well, the sidewalk was still hard.
