    Enigmatic
    (1 item)

I found it at an estate that had other early American measurement tools and some French. Not sure if measurement was the application but seems plausible.

~The tool is about 6" long and the tong tips are easily squeezed inward.
~The metal is heavy with a very dark patina but can be polished to a high silver shine.
~Total weight is about 12 oz.
    ~Not magnetic

Thanks in advance for the information.

I can't imagine what you could measure with such an object. Very interesting!

I agree with Efesgirl on the measuring. Real stumper from my corner. Sounds like maybe German-silver.

      Enigmatic is the term :-))
A piece of table ware, pinch of some sort???
      A huge corn knob holder???

      Medical device... giant's earwax remover ;-) ?

Well, I think that whatever it is requires the user to pierce something and then hold it with the tongs.

Well, the large handle suggests a great force is required to press the tool point into, say, leather using the palm; the tweezers could provide a centering facility... It could be used to punch a series of well centered holes into a belt of leather.

I vote for Jero's idea as I have no other idea in mind!

When you force the tweezers together the cone shaped piece would control the arms of the tweezers towards a focal point. Do the tips of the tweezers actually touch? .... or is there a distance between the two arms?
