This is a sculpture signed by Livio Seguso. It is numbered 10/10. The sculpture resembles his embryo/evolution series but is not quite as defined. The piece stands at 12 " and weighs 27 pounds. I would like some help in figuring out what he named this piece.
    Thank you,
    Deb

Can you please post a photo of the sculpture?

Also, do you have a picture of the Seguso part of the signature? Sometimes pieces are signed differently depending on the time period. It might help to date the sculpture, which in turn might make it easier to find.

Okay, just posted full signature and picture of the sculpture

I assumed the name started with an 'O' but now I'm not sure. Could it be 'Sultana' with a very unusual capital 'S'?
    5. glencrest, 8 years ago
I think the first letter is an "O" Just by looking at his signature "Seguso", it does not look like an "S".

I'm not sure the name was written by him at all. The writing seems really different. He signs more like a lefty would, with upright or slightly back-slanted letters. I'm not willing to say it's *not* an 'O' (that was my first thought, after all!) but I'm not sure you'll be able to tell based on his signature.

This is a really great piece, Deb!

swfinluv1, Yes, I believe you are right! The writing is quite different. Do you know if it was common for someone other than the artist to add something on the glass pieces?

It could also be the name of the designer whose idea Livio Seguso created. This is a limited edition piece. I've been looking around for a couple of days and I agree that the first letter might well be an O.

Far be it from me to be a signature expert, but I'm ok with the signature from what I've researched for you. I think it's authentic. Scroll down on this link to see a very similar item he produced named purete absolue. I think it translates to pure and alone. At first glance of your sculpture I immediately thought I was seeing an embryonic human being. But the head is malformed, so perhaps the name of this sculpture that we're trying to decipher is relevant to the shape of this undeveloped fetus. https://leverreetlecristal.wordpress.com/category/livio-seguso-designer-realise-des-pieces-dune-purete-absolue-italie/

Oh I get it. The sculpture name/engraving is in question.
    11. Collectomaniac Collectomaniac, 8 years ago
Maybe something similar to Oeuvre meaning a work of art.

Thanks for your input Collectomaniac. I have been searching the web and today I saw some pieces done by this artist and they were named "Genesis". It featured three separate sculptures. Each a bit different from the others, but looking as they were slowly transforming into a growing embryo. I am checking words to see if any of them match in Italian for my sculpture. I think for sure the first letter is an "O" and the last three letters are "ana".
    13. vetraio50 vetraio50, 8 years ago
I agree that the last letters on your sculpture are '-ana'.
I have another suggestion about the first letter .... It might be an A.

I base this on a piece if Livio's handwriting and n the illustration found here:
      http://www.alessandraartale.it/2014/09/livio-seguso-e-la-magia-del-vetro.html

It reads 'Ad Alessandra' .... To Alexandra.

So my idea is that the 'title' may begin with an A- and end in -ana.

      Could it be 'Avellana'?

To help you with that thank you note from Livio to Alexandra ... Here is the full text:

      sincera amicizia

Vetraio50, Looking at the note Livio wrote, the first letter could very well be an "A" after all. Thank you for the information!!
