i bought a big pile of photos off of a friend today. there's some really intersting ones too. any idea when they were taken? many of them are marked on the back. some are from Ueno Park. Others are from Hiroshima. and one is even from a baseball game.

I, too, love old photos, but those of post war Japan are very sad. I have lots of old photos of post war Japan taken by my mother, who survived the fire bombings of Tokyo as a young woman. The thing that stands out, for me, in nearly every picture, regardless of the photographer, is how empty, how sparsely populated each scene is. I didn't realize the reason, as a kid, looking at the photos, but came to realize, as I got older, that the reason was because so many Japanese, both soldiers and civilians, had lost their lives. Go just about anywhere in Japan today and you'll be standing elbow to elbow with a whole bunch of people. I'm sure it must have been the same in post war Europe. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be morbid. Your photos are a treasure. Thank you for sharing them. :)
