Hello to Everyone,
I'm looking for help identifying the time period of my REX Bandage Scissors. I collect WWII items so I'm out of my area of knowledge here and asking for some help. My Uncle was a Medic in the 2nd Infantry Division from 1942 until 1945, thus my interest.
I've been through a lot of sites and searches but can't find anything to at least tell me if these scissors are 1939 through 1945 era. I do know that these types of medical items were almost never date stamped and sometimes even didn't have a manufactures mark. Also, that items from pre-war Germany were bought by the U.S. military medical services.
So please let me know if anyone out there knows a way or site for just letting me know if my scissors are from the correct time period.

Not sure of date.....but we had some. Used for removing Surgical wrap. Is there a patent Number anywhere on them? let us know

Thanks for responding.
No markings other than the ones shown in the pics. These scissors measure 7 1/2" in total, from the tip to the end of the looped handles. From the tip of the blades to the elbow it's 2 1/2" and from the elbow to the top, flat edge of the loops it's 6".
I've Korean War era bandage scissors, in dated wrappers, but they all measured only 7 1/4".
I've found AD's for REX in newspapers dating back to 1948, but nothing on REX as a company, products they produced and if they were around before 1940.
Again, I'm not looking for an exact date/year just want to know if these could have been from the WW2 period.

found them....Mine look just like yours but are stamped with:
MILTEX GERMANY STAINLESS
So not the same maker -- but I googled that and maybe there is something here that will help you. Take a peek.....?

Mike, I have a pair of these REX lister scissors. They were in a US military M-3 medic bag that contained WWII and early Korean war era medical supplies. They were wrapped in their original aluminum foil and wax paper packaging. I believe they are WWII vintage,

Can I ask, were there any markings on the wrappings?
I've checked many sources for WWII manufactures of medical supplies and haven't found REX among them. Did find a newspaper add, from it looks like 1947, for a pharmacy showing REX products.

Negative. However, they were, in fact, packaged in accordance with military specifications. I can't send you a photo via this messaging, but the scissors are first wrapped in aluminum foil, then they are wrapped in wax paper and placed into a wax foil package that bears the stock number and info that can place it within a certain period. These were removed from the outer package and placed in an M-3 bag that was dated within the 1947 - 1965 era. They are definitely USGI.

Thanks again for the follow up and the description of the wrappings on the scissors.
By that description I'm thinking they are post WW2 era, '39-'45. I agree with your time frame of '47-'65.
I have, over time, found that several makers (H. Boker Co., Silko, Sklar Instruments and Wimco) packaged these scissors in brown kraft or wax paper and they came in a small cardboard box with the military item number 34680000.
