Trying to identify this chair, and it's making me nuts. The peg/block tapered legs and overall style/composition have me thinking Federal or Sheraton, but then the curved lines and back style don't seem to fit just right. Empire Revival?
It might be a dining chair or parlor chair. Then again there is the angled shape to the front that is similar to a lolling chair, but the back does not angle back quite enough.
Underneath, the original construction (all iron nails) and shreds/threads of original(?) upholstery place it well into antique status. The red velvet and braid are newer.
I believe the wood is oak or mahogany...the stain applied is medium pecan wood tone.
Hmmm...any direction, question or knowledge that can help?
