This style of jacket was worn by CPD patrolmen during the summer. This particular jacket was made before 1980, because after this time the shape of the district patch had changed. This man worked out of the 19th district, which is on the north side of Chicago. All of the buttons are guilded and read Chicago City Police. On the right sleeve is the flag of the city of Chicago. There is also a gold star above the left cuff, this denotes 20 years of service.
