A vintage hand drill or brace. The drill bit is called a ship's auger. It is about a yard long. I bought this as a present for someone who likes vintage tools. As the power is out here I need to turn off the generator soon I am out of time to look up more information on it now.
Thank you scott0363 and AZTom for the info.

Very cool brace drill! There are still a couple of these in my Mother's barn somewhere.

Nice old brace. The bit is called a ships auger. They are available today for electrical and plumbing industry. If the end that fits in the brace is hex shaped it is s newer one.

Thank you very much AzTom. I don't see anything hex shaped so I think it is older.
