This vase is very precious to my dear 98 year old mother. It was bought for her by her grandson who paid just a few English pounds for it in a junk shop in Cornwall. It's 12" tall and decorated with birds, butterflies, flowers and bamboo leaves (I think!) She has got it into her head that it is a genuine antique and I have explained that it is much more likely to have been mass produced but have said that I would try and find out for her. She is not interested in selling it. I'm afraid I'm not a collector so have absolutely no knowledge. Thank you for any help.

Pretty sure is a tourist market piece. I didn't manage to find any of those "characters" among the Chinese or Japanese alphabet:

I have a ginger jar posted here I bought in a flea market for 3 Euro 50 cents that is also nothing valuable/ not an antique, but I just love it.

Thank you Efesgirl. Pretty much as I expected. I love your ginger jar - what a bargain!
