My mission today was to find a nice frame for my Peony painting I posted yesterday. Well I didn't find anything in the frame department, but I did find these at Savers. A wonderful 5 1/2" egg shaped spatter vase with a crimped top and an 8" green glass Hyacinth vase. I'm pretty sure these are both older pieces. The Hyacinth vase has a nice wear ring on the bottom and a pontil mark. The spatter vase is made by Legras. Thanks to Michelleb007 for the ID info as it being listed in the 1893 Legras catalog as the 'Poussin' model, which translates as 'chick' or 'young chicken' because of it's egg shape. It has a ground pontil and a pronounced seam down both sides. Kind of hard to see in the pictures as the spatter obscures them. I have two other Legras vases a Facettes Ball, Pervenche. This seems to be very similar in construction except for the pontil. -Mike-

Oh I like the store just fine Ken it's that their prices can be high on certain things. These were like eight bucks for both so yes it was a great find. I go out there maybe two-three times a week to see what's new. Rocky River is about as far as I go and then head back home via North Olmsted for GW and Volunteer's then jump on 90 and head back to Elyria. Takes me about 3 hours to do my sweep. :)

Hi Mike, great finds from Savers! Your spatter vase is Legras; I have a similar one in the same shape and color way. It is shown in a 1893 Legras catalog as the 'Poussin' model, which translates as 'chick' or 'young chicken'. It cracks me up since the vase is in the shape of a hatched egg. :)
Hi Michelle....Thanks so much for confirming the little spatter vase as Legras. I thought as much myself. I love the French names Poussin, Facettes Ball, Pervenche. I was browsing your posts and I noticed you have a lot of enameled glass by Legras. I found these large beautifully enameled cranberry glass vases at Salvation a couple of Summers back. They appear in perfect condition and I have them packed away for safe keeping. I was thinking Moser but now after seeing your posts I'm leaning more towards Legras...what do you think ??

Hi Mike, isn't it great that there are old catalogs, so we actually get to know the names? You know, I took a look at your lovely vase pair - I do think they are likely Legras, too. The pinterest link you gave is definitely a Legras vase (shape, decor) so if the large vases are so similar, I'd say Legras. What a terrific find from a Thrift store! I wish I had your luck!! :)
Thanks Michelle..yes our Salvation Army store is quite an amazing place. I would say 90% of my finds come from there. The day I found that pair I didn't need to go anywhere else I was so thrilled. No damage and flawless enamel. Considering how things get thrown around in the production area it's unbelievable. I've been looking at all your posts. So many beautiful pieces and a wealth of information. I see a lot that I have which are similar and I've just dismissed them as unknown Czech or Bohemian when they are probably French. Especially the enameled ones. You should write a book ! :)
Oh, I wish I had a Salvation Army like yours nearby! Mike, that is such a kind compliment, thank you. You know, I have been trying to learn the differences between Bohemian and French glass by doing a lot of reading, a lot of looking online for examples, looking at old catalogs, and by actually owning some of both so I can see them first hand. I love to share any knowledge I may have with others, too - it makes the collecting world so much better when people do.
