Your Bell System sign was manufactured from 1921 to 1938. In 1921 the Bell System came up with a much simpler design and it was adopted by the Bell Companies all over the country. Your sign is referred to as the "21" Bell. Prior to 1921 the signs logo had Local & Long Distance Telephone.

Thanks for the info regarding the year.

I haven't been able to find a pic of an oval sign like this. Round and square are everywhere. But no ovals?

Should this have a manufacturers mark on it somewhere?

Some sign had manufacture's name, but many didn't. Bob Alexander's book called
A Collector's Guide to Antique Porcelain Enamel Telephone Signs has oval Bell signs in his book. Your sign could has been manufactured by the Chattanooga Stamping and Enameling Company, Chattanooga, TN. I have seen several of this signs that say Public Telephone, Telephone Office, and Western Union.

Looks like the 1931-1939 pattern, similar to the 1921 version but with no company name around the bell.
