Purchased this wonderful lighter last week . I was really impressed by the design and shape. At first I thought it was Art Deco ,did some research and I believe it's mid century. If someone out there has any info I would really appreciate it. It was made in England.

    Many thanks ahead of time

They look a lot like the lighters I've seen with an ash tray stand. The lighters were built in to the stand.

BTW I've never seen one that was 14ct gold in a ashtray so im probably wrong.

Masterpearl, Just happened along on your post and recognized your Ronson lighter. My father always used them back in the 50's and I remember them well. He always was very well dressed and purchased things of high value. This is the design/type of Ronson that he used in atleast the 1950's that I can verify in regard to the time period.

You can see the mid-century styling in the nod to the "rocket" style of the old car fenders from the 50's.

      Thank You razzjazzy and Padit
You're both right about the style reminiscent of the 50s.
I like how you compared it to car fenders and rockets. I guess this is what they call naustalgias.

Masterpearl, Yes, he had to have his Cadillacs too.

I have a Singer sewing machine nicknamed "The Rocketeer" that is so iconic of that swooped style. In fact, I have a whole collection of mid-century machines that have auto-inspired "dashboard" instrumentation. They also stopped using the black japanned finish and began using the colorful auto paints too. Some of my favorites are Morse. Anyway, that lighter reminds me of my Rocketeer.

      I know what you mean.
I never paid much attention in the past but now when I see items like the lighter I think of George and The Jetsons.
Watching the cartoon as a kid I never imagined we'd be living it.
