I am uncertain of many details as this is what I am searching for more info. These look to be silk screened and the material I think is linen. There are 8 total I am showing 6. Would these be from WWII? 1940's or 50's? These are Sailors doing various activities in each piece - eating, shooting, rowing, night on the town, etc. The pieces are 5"x 7.5". There is no markings or signature to go on. Any help, advice, knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you Sean68! Yes, I am a first timer, newbie. I am just at a wall with these, do you think silk screen is the right way to go in a description? Do you have any suggestions?

Wonderful graphics ! I would search WWII Handkerchief , they look like novelties from that time period and maybe gifts sent home from military guys.

Hello friends of CW! The handkerchief is not providing any results. If ANY of you have any other ideas - anything I would be so grateful. Thank you for the positive feedback and suggestions. Take care.

These are strangely whimsical. Almost too playful of scenes. Propaganda?
    8. Collectomaniac Collectomaniac, 8 years ago
I'm thinking now they may have been carnival prizes or perhaps napkins?
My apologize for all the guessing.

Hi Collectomaniac, please do not apologize for your guessing/suggestions. I am asking for all thoughts on this as I cannot find anything on these items. You know, maybe they were not made in the USA and made overseas.... My Father side of the family is all Navy therefore, I am trying to figure out a time frame and who may have purchased these. I thank you for your time and thought into my matter. Take care.

The scenes on these just seem to be something more for sending to your buddy back home, showing what a great time your having. A little research and I found that in the USA, burlesque was becoming banned, outlawed, frowned upon, etc in many cities starting in 1937 until about 1942. Something like these would make your buddy want to enlist maybe when he was sent one. They would indicate both the army and navy is great to be in. These might be pre '42. I believe I read burlesque was banned in New York in that year.

Collectomaniac, WOW. I have so many thoughts and the first is to thank you. Thank you. See this is why any thoughts on the subject are good thoughts. Other people's "wording" or knowledge of the "era" is of great help. Sometimes the little info will strike other ideas or adjectives in the minds of those searching. "It takes a village of thought" and I am grateful. I have been so suck on "silk screen art" "Military cloth art" because I am trying to figure out in my mind what to call these. They resemble a hankie but are really not. I have exhausted handkerchiefs too.
I am young, 46. So much of our military history, 30's, 40's and on I do not know especially War time. My Dad was born in 39 and although Military runs in the family he did not know anything about them. Your thoughts of pre '42 would potentially make these prior to his birth. Which also tells me these definitely came from his Mother.... which just struck a thought, would/could she had gotten these at the World's Fair in New York in 1939?! Does anyone feel these would promote Military stuff there? I have sooooo much from that event from her... Collectomaniac, thank you so much for helping. You are a gem.
