The ring posted just previously arrived polished...
Pics #1 and 3.
Preferring more contrast to the details, I went for my lighter heating method :-)
Holding the ring with a pinch, I place it above the lighter's flame (not in!), moving it to control the heat.
After the heating, pic#2, it took a strange color, but a light buff with a cloth did the result you can see in pic#4.
CAUTION! STONES, PEARLS MAY NOT ACCEPT TO BE HEATED THAT WAY!

kyra - that's news to me...a tip I will put into use with my own silver jewelry!
I tried hypochlorite, boiled egg yolk, sulfur vapor... painful processes :-)
Idea came when I saw what happen to silver after soldering, and remember jewelers always repolish after soldering!
This is not as permanent as real age patina, but easy to do again.
I think it may be more efficient as a base for a new patina establishment, leaving it unbuffed for some time .
A great thing you put here as a warning! Otherwise, you know someone would have done that exact thing! Very interesting fact about the heat. And with just it being from a lighter, it's not hot enough to change it's form! Pretty good.

Matches flame is great too, but don't leave a lasting blackening...
