1917 US bayonet been in family for years. No idea of value. Does anyone know what the stamps stand for. It also has 1898C on the handle. Would appreciate any knowledge on this

Don't remember the 2 perpendicular grooves in the wood grip. Are they on both sides ?
The flaming bomb is the symbol of the US Ordnance Corp. The eagle head and number underneath was an inspector's mark. The X had been a British mark used in a flex test, not sure if it served the same purpose on an American blade.
Of course Remington is the manufacturer and 1917 the date.
Yep, the Model 1917 bayonet had two grooves on the grip, to differentiate them from the Pattern 1907 bayonet. I've gone into some detail about M-1917 markings on my post here:

Yes the grooves are on both sides. Thanks for the info guys from this Canadian.
