    Early exemple of these!

Gold isn't marked, but the domed wood and leather fitted case, lined in silk satin and velvet, plus the unusual safety stopper are the clues!

Most were made in Edwardian era, wrongly called "Essex crystals".
Favorite subjects were animals, wild game or pets, and lots of sporting themed, equestrian or fishing, hunting.

I have seen items like this on Flog It and Bargain Hunt (BBC) being mistaken for Essex crystal. This stickpin is beautiful. I wish I had the safety stopper for mine. :-)

I would love to see all these TV shows about antiques! In France, the few that existed were very poor...
When I said wrongly called Essex crystals, it is because William Essex made none! But his enamel buttons or stickpins had the same themes.
Essex Crystal became now the common appellation though :-/

Thanks Mike, I'm very glad you love it :-)
Fitted antique cases are always a plus, specially if it bears the retailer or maker mark!

No Ho2cultcha, eglomisé is not 3D, only painted under glass :-)
The whole process of making reverse painted crystal intaglios is:
The precise physical process of the reverse carved intaglio crystal is a long and tedious one. Rock crystal mined in Brazil and Madagascar is cut with diamond saws and then ground to the perfect cabochon. This procedure could take as many as twenty different grades of polish, and the entire process is done by hand. Once the stone is shaped, the design is drawn on the reverse side of the crystal with water color. The image is then etched into the piece of stone with a scribe pencil.

The engraving begins with handmade soft steel tools. As many as 250 of these tools may be used to execute this process. The crystal is carved with a paste made from a combination of oil and diamond dust. When the image has been completed to the artist’s satisfaction, he begins painting the crystal. Just as in the carving phase, the painting is done in reverse. Sometimes the brushes that are used have only one hair!
