I think these are well done maybe could figure out who did them. They were painted 1904 Denver Colorado names were the Hamilton's That's about it. They are large 16" 20" oval framed. They are good looking couple most I see from this time show the hard live they have had. Both are Blue eyed. The faces look like photos almost The earring she it wearing looks like you could reach in and take it off "Tromploi" type work. Any help would be great not sure how these were made.

"The faces look like photos"-- they ARE photos. These are actually earlier photographic portraits that were enlarged. As part of the enlargement process, details of the original photographs were often lost. For this reason it was typical to draw or paint in details.
The enlargement of photographs was an important part of photographers business in the late 19th/ early 20th century. Ads for enlarging are often found on the back of cabinet cards and cdv images. 16" X 20" seems to be the most popular size that these are found in.

Thanks for the info that explains all the question about why they look that way.
Forgot to include, but based on the subjects appearance, I would say that the original images were late 1850s- 1860s.

I think the info I was givin might be a mistake somehow the story behind these was lost and exchanged with another couple. The lady said they were her neighbors she said 1904 when they were done. Things get passed down and stories get confused with others over all the years. I knew the clothing and styles were earlier than 1900's.
