    I think this is a Marmot. Anyway it is a large rodent about 18"ong. Probably would have weighed over 10 pounds. Marmots are related to Woodchucks, Groundhogs etc.
    This one is very well done with a nice base.
    Yes I probably should not have bought it but I can not resist an unusual piece of taxidermy like this. Something like this would cost a few hundred $ to have preserved like this, it is not exactly a trophy animal. Possibly from a small museum.
    There is a chipmunk in photo 3 to show the size.

      I think too it is a marmot, thinner after hibernation :-)

      Glad that "Chuck" now has a good home. :-))) I have a taxidermy baby duck in my display cabinet, found at a flea market.

      During mating season I see these furry critters all over the mountains around here. No gophers though.
