      It is most likely a 19th C. chest or trunk key, less likely for a padlock and even less likely a door key. It's almost certain that all those fancy gates are just for show. The horizontal ones on the left and right are probably the only functional ones.

      from your comment I deduct that door keys are more collectible than chest/trunk keys?

      No. Quite the opposite. Old hand-made door keys are USUALLY relatively plain. Padlock keys and trunk/chest keys TEND to be fancier. (A padlock key is MORE likely to have a hole in its end (barrel key) than either of the other two.) There will, of course, be exceptions to all those statements but generally the fancier the key the more it's worth.
