This antique crescent seed pearl brooch was with the Victorian amethyst pendant that I purchased recently (and posted).I am unsure of this brooches date and origin but thinking it is from America going by the 14k stamp?and am hoping some-one will know and if 14 ct gold was used in antique jewellery making.

Jewelry made before 1906 in the USA often do not have any hallmarking stamps. The U.S. National Gold and Silver Stamping Act was passed in 1906, requiring that all gold jewelry carry a karat percentage stamp. After 1961, it was required that all jewelry manufacturers and jewelers add their maker's hallmark stamps next to the gold percentage stamp.
