This is a reproduction of a WWII rifle grenade launcher. One put this on the end of a rifle and launch it using a blank cartridge. A blank has a powder charge but no projectile.
These are designed for use with intermediate cartridge rifles. The originals were made for the M1 Garand which fired the much more powerful 30.06 round. 7.62 x 63 if I recall correctly.
The grenade is completely inert and safe to use with my Hot Point Toaster.
