This brooch is marked 9ct gold I think the green stone is Jade, in a bezel mount. The stone feels cold and waxy to the touch, I've compared this stone with a green agate, it looks completely different, kyra, I need your expert help please. The brooch in my opinion is a early Art and Craft piece, with beautiful gold leaves and berries, it has a C clasp. There are no makers mark, I was wondering if it could be Liberty.
I would appreciate any help, many thanks in advance.
    Many thanks for looking

I'm pretty sure it's Chrysoprase. (A type of chalcedony). It's very pretty!

Yes, jade, it seems to have the "orange peel" finish of old hand polished stones :-)
A special insect wax is the treatment applied to jade for shine!
Can't help for the maker, but undoubtedly Arts and crafts :-)

Forgot to add the double cab cut of the jadeite (not flat back) is clue for old stone :-)

From the pics I'm thinking probably jade. Looks to be old, Arts & Crafts era, the little applied tag with 9ct mark was an Edwardian era technique, and as Kyra says, the domed back cabochon also suggests it's old. Could be Liberty or one of many other makers of the period. What a great collection you're putting together.

Thank you kiwipaul, for your comment, I will probably never know who is the maker of this brooch. I really appreciate time.

I persist in my jade opinion, precisely from the cloudy color and the orange peel superficial effect:

      From this link:
      http://www.friendsofjade.org/current-article/2006/2/23/old-chinese-jades-real-or-fake.html

"A visual inspection can reveal much. Jade’s translucence lets you see slightly below the surface, creating a visual effect quite unlike most of its imitators. Older jades that were polished using soft abrasives will often reveal a slight “orange peel” effect on the surface. And although true jade comes in a range of colors, it will probably not show the sickly yellow-green of certain serpentines or the dull, opaque white of many chalcedonies."

Thanks both to rucklczglass and kyra for useful information concerning whether this stone is Jade or not. I am taking this brooch back to the UK with me, I'll go to my local jewellers shop which specialises in antique jewellery hopefully they can answer the question. Yet again thank you to you both.
