This lavalier was given to my mother by a total stranger when she was 16 years old which was 72 years ago. It is a very simple but beautiful piece of jewelery. One day, it will go to one of my daughters.

My grandmother left me a lavalier necklace. I was wondering how I go about finding out what it is worth.
Hi Connie.....I am lucky as I have a jeweler who appreciates the fact that older pieces are special and a part of history. My only suggestion is to find a jeweler like mine. I am guessing you don't want to sell the piece so have him give you an "Insurance Replacement" price as that is a higher value if it is stolen, or lost.
Another idea is to go on EBay to get an idea of prices on similar pieces.
Now, I can help you with this. If you can send me a photo of the piece, I will shoot it to my jeweler to get his opinion. However, i would need to know exactly what the materials are. Silver, Gold 10k 12k 14k etc. Gemstone type, pearl, etc.
