The FB version of CW inspired me to post this. Impressive beasts such as tigers etc. I decided to go with a chicken.
The Cochin was breed developed in China and exported in the late 1800s. It became popular in the USA and Great Britain due to the large size, plentiful plumage and pleasant disposition. Basically they make good pets. People keep them in the house like they would a dog or cat.
This one may have been a prize winning chicken or perhaps a pet. It is hard to say why someone went to the expense of having this bird preserved.
Weird! One of my sisters collects chicken figurines, but I don't think she would want this one in her collection. LOL
