I bought a family photo album along with some stampless early 1800's letters.

The 1st photo in the album was of this elderly woman. The description states that she was born in 1788 and died in 1858.

I've never owned a photo of a person born in the 1700s. They had to be old before photography was even invented much less became common.

I find this quite fascinating. That lady probably was thinking about the camera as a wonder of the technology, new world. For us it is unbelievably ancient.
