I believe the print to be circa 1902. It's of a French painting from the 1850s and is supposed to depict an Arabian horse market. The image is beautifully done and is quite intense as the eye moves over it to absorb every last well-executed detail.

It's also incredibly fragile. So too is the backing which, upon gently removing the deteriorating piece, I found that the hidden side revealed something quite interesting: About half of a sign for something. Tickets and Certificates/Officiates?

This reminds of something my wife and I witnessed a long time ago, when we first got married. We were walking across the Salinas Country Fair grounds to see the Salinas Rodeo. We had to walk right next to the horse racing track and as we walked by the race horses suddenly thundered by. We couldn't have been more than 20 feet away, I don't think. The sound was deafening, but we could clearly see the horses' bulging eyes, their flared nostrils, even the jockeys' eyes through their goggles as they thundered by, the ground rumbling beneath our feet. The whole thing lasted less than 10 seconds, but it was ground-shaking. And that's what your picture reminds me of. [;>))
