    What are these???

Obtained from an rural old estate, my best guess is that they held some type of stove gas or fuel ( white gas? )

Cast iron, top portion were white paint with unreadable writing and large numbers, one does say " New York" but unable to read or distinguish further. The fluted flask is ringed around the top, but does not appear to be a threaded cap.

    Any solid info appreciated.

Just when I thought I was going to get a restful nite's sleep !! Can't hold something like propane or butane. Never seen anything to even compare them with without a valve on top.

Mystery solved, actually had an old friend who responded with the answer ( had posted to facebook also ). Advised the Flasks were used to store Mercury. Fortunately, they are empty, probably wont be using them for my john barleycorn liquids!
