I found this item 10-12 years ago at a yard sale and fell in love. I know nothing about it. I am guessing it is an antique printer's cabinet. It is solid wood, of apparently different types. I have 12 trays, with a 7x7 grid. They unit is in rough shape, for the most part (but maybe not for its age?). Two of the drawers have adhered type on them. One has letters on the back of individual slots and the side of the drawer has a degraded label which you can make out "...ARTERLY RE-UNION". The other drawer has a degraded label that you can make out "...E. STATE ST., MEDIA, PA".
I would love to know anything about this piece that may be puzzled together from these clues, including its age/value.

Yep, typeface cabinet. This is what's called a 2/3rds cabinet. A nice find! I'm sure a hobby letterpress printer would give eyeteeth for it! This size is nice since it's so compact.
Oh, and from your description, it may be a CAP cabinet, as in just capitals.
My husbands grandparents had a printing press in their basement (our house now), the printing press is gone but we have the wooden drawers-cabinet with all the letters, numbers, rollers, ink blocks and logs with the customers and prices they charged. Is this worth anything? there is so much stuff- we dont know where to begin and we don't want to destroy anything too. anyone have suggestions as to value and what to do with it? thanks
Tracey, we have a press, but no cabinet and type!
