    Hello,

I recently bought is ceramic samisen (shamisen) marked Nippon Samisen. There is also a signature on the samisen I believe it starts with a Y but other than that I am lost on the maker.

Here's the fun. On the back it's marked Hand Decorated Ceramic Designed Exclusively for Triangle Pictures with a copy right Arina Weisberg or Nrina or Irina. Triangle Pictures was an early movie studio in hollywood. They closed in the 1920's. So I think it puts it in line for the Nippon mark. I'd love to know who the maker is. I cannot find any information on the signature. I don' t think it's a typical piece. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank You,
    Joys Whatnots

I found the Irina listing too. She lived in CA during the right time (late 1800's to early 1900's). I went to the US copyright site and had no luck. I couldn't find any connection with Irina and Triangle. But they were all in the same place at at the same time. Why would you copyright art? Was it for a movie? That's my dead end right now. I was hoping identifying the artist may give me a new clue.

Irina was the one who made the tile art in Her Studio Triangle Pictures. She was known for using tiles and making these types of things. She copyrighted them to protect Her art, many Artist will do this. Triangle Pictures is not the Movie Company, Its the name of Her Business, as the stamp on back shows. No connection between the Film Studio and Her Business name...
