We found this nice original 51 Stude at a swap meet today and since it's a runner with only 66 000 original miles on it, had to buy it! The price was right and it included delivery to the Lakeside Storage Museum in Provo, so how could we possibly refuse? I was never a Stude guy as a kid, but as an old man I am quite taken by the totally different design. This car has no dents and no rust and came with a title! All it needs is paint and upholstery and a battery and its on the road again! OK I'll change the oil and clean the filter while I'm at it and maybe even a lube job? No I had no intention on buying another car, but I could NOT refuse the price! The fun was in the hunt and the dickering.
LOL ! I felt the same way back then. Our boot-leggers didn't like them because they had no room for a load ! Oops ! I'm giving away too much now! Probably one of the few anybody wanted to save.

Actually they had a fairly lack luster, but dependable little flathead 6 engine that ran forever as I recall. I got this from a guy who got it from a desperate druggie that needed cash. It came with a title so it's not stolen. I kind of like the Flash Gordon rocket ship lines on the old girl & may even throw a coat of paint on her? Sure wish Earl Sheib was still around with the $49.95 cheapo paint jobs. No deals any more!

Ahhhhhh yes!! The tales of our youth! My big sister had an ugly green 49 Stude that my dad got her and I remember the day she ran a red light while I was in the front passenger seat and a guy broadsided us right in my side of the car while I watched helplessly as it all happened. No seat belts in those days so I just held on tightly to the dash as I prepared for the crash!!! We were right in front of the Culver City Ca Police station as it happened and no cops ever came out to investigate the wreck? Obviously it totaled the old Stude and we all walked away unhurt somehow? Tough kids in those days!

Yes! The good old days were filled with fun and excitement that was of our own making. It involved creativity on a very meager budget of lots of good parts and almost zero cash! It stretched our minds and our backs but it produced men that can do more than change the toilet paper roll in a bathroom!!! Today's kids??? They better become rich as they can't actually do anything but play video games and work an IPhone

Yes that is true! At the same time u also hear the guy with a big Diesel engine in his pick up with a chip in it that makes it purrrrr and roar like a lion when he punches it!!! Obviously I live in Utah where pickups still reign. My Duramax can drag an unbelievable load since it put the chip in it and it never groans like the old Nissan Titan did. The whistle of the turbo with the chip has its own sound and I love to hear them coming down the road.
Great find!! I love Studebakers!! That is a Champion isn't it? The old "Coming or Going" car.... :-) I had a 1961 Silver Hawk I used as a driver for many years. Bought it used with about 40K on it, which was very low at the time, and the price was a giveaway so I had to have it. Bright red with white inserts on the fins. Red interior, and when you rolled the windows down front and rear, there was no window post at all. It had a Studebaker 289 in it, auto with Posi-traction, which they called TT or Twin Traction. Ended up selling it to my brother after years of driving it. One of the coolest and most fun cars I ever owned.... and I have owned quite a few. Studebakers are way cool!! Have fun with that one.

I did not mean front and rear window, I meant when you opened the wing and rolled down the front there was no post like most cars have.... The rears were "portholes".

Yep! I remember that in about 1955 they came out with a really powerful engine and cleaned up at the drags with those Golden Hawks. Not like the little flathead 6 that I have in the Flash Gordon spaceship model. I love this old girl!

Agreed on the Candy Apple red, however stock colors are probably where we will go if we decide to paint it.
