I found this little guy hiding behind some old silver plate at Salvation Army this morning. Love the "art deco" style and recognized the Napier design. These were very popular and graced any well organized 30's bar. Unfortunately they have been copied to death over the years since first being introduced by Napier in the 1930's. Originals in silver and plate cost up to several hundred dollars today if you can find one. Restoration Hardware made some modern ones but they are well marked on the bottom and say"Restoration Hardware" Made in India. My little guy carries no marks anywhere. So maybe this one is from a different maker. It's quite heavy stainless steel and stands 10.5" Various sites show these unmarked ones as 50s' to 70's vintage. -Mike-

Clarification for this penguin shaker. These are ALL from Restoration Hardware. This is their own original design, which they made in 1997-98. There are no such shakers from any previous time periods. They initially used stickers with their name on them stuck to the bottom of the feet to mark the shakers, which of course eventually fall off. In later production runs they switch to the traditional method of machine stamping their name on the feet. Also, these are NOT exact replicas of the Napier as assumed. Restoration Hardware actually created this design by combining design elements from the two different art deco era penguin cocktail shakers. For anyone interested I can elaborate, and direct you to photos of the two art deco shakers for comparison.
