I think these are enameled 1950s/1960s Austrian and German car badges. I'm not totally sure, though.
Anyone know for exactly what they were, what their ages are, how common they are? Besson is on the back of each, and each is a bit under 2.5 inches across.

Could these be car club badges or mementos? These look similar to car club badges of insignias that I saw in Japan, attached to car grills. [;>)

Dizzy Dave, what is a rally badge? Is the second a souvenir? Before I posted I read the location is a resort/tournament center.
NO, I THINK THEY ARE BOTH RALLY BADGES, I WOULD SEE THE GARMISCH BADGE A LOT WHEN I WENT TO GARMISCH BACK IN THE 80'S. THEY DID A LOT OF RALLY OVER THE ALPS. I WOULD SEE IT MOSTLY ON PORSCHE'S, MERCEDES ETC. RALLY CARS WITH MANY BADGES IN THAT AREA. GARMISCH IS A TOURIST AREA BUT IT HAS NEVER CHANGED IN HUNDREDS OF YRS. NO NEON SIGNS IN THIS TOWN, EVEN MCDONALDS HAD NO SIGN OUTSIDE BACK THEN. IT HAS TO BE ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL PLACES IN GERMANY!
I may visit one day, but what does one do at the rally? I'm not understanding that part.
It is distinguished by running not on a circuit, but instead in a point-to-point format in which participants and their co-drivers drive between set control points (special stages), leaving at regular intervals from one or more start points. Rallies may be won by pure speed within the stages or alternatively by driving to a predetermined ideal journey time within the stages. Driving through the Alps from Germany, Sweden etc

There are several car rallies held in Japan each year, organized and sponsored by car clubs. I suppose that could have been what I saw on the cars when we lived in Japan, rally badges, though the cars weren't, I don't think, in a rally when I saw them. We were leisurely driving along Lake Ashi (Ashinoko), a scenic lake in the Hakone area of Kanagawa Prefecture, about a 2-hour drive from my wife's hometown of Kamakura, when a long line of identical compact Mitsubishi cars passed by from the opposite direction. Every one of the cars, more than a dozen, had one or more of these car badges attached to their front grills. I didn't need to ask my wife, knowing by sense and being familiar with Japanese culture, that they were a car club. [;>)

Here in the UK we have many Car Shows / Country Shows / Steam Rally's.
These are normally static events held in Parks, Sports Fields and even Town Center's.
Where you would get a large gathering of Classic Cars, Vintage Cars, Trucks & Buses supported by Stalls & Pitches selling Car parts & Collectibles of all kinds.
Along with Catering Vans of all kinds.
At the end of the Event each entrant would receive a Rally Plaque or Token of the Event.
This could be anything from a small metal or plastic square or disc to a larger cast Brass Plaque with a depiction of a Vehicle of some kind or a Horse if a Country event. ( Here in Wales the Welsh Dragon is popular )
Then there is the Car Rally, This is more along the lines of the Monte Carlo Rally where a group of drivers with there cars would drive a set route to a time or just for a day out and most events would give each driver a plate ether metal or plastic to fix to the front of their vehicle with the event and date and some times an entry number.

When I had my 57 Chevy Nomad (don't ask, sob : ( I used to go to classic car shows and do Poker Rallies. You'd go point to point like a scavenger hunt with clues, and pick up a card for a poker hand at each point.
That sounds pretty unique.
